DrRich at The National Press Club

DrRich is honored to be joining a panel of distinguished medical bloggers on July 17 at 9:00 AM at The National Press Club in Washington, DC, on the topic of “Healthcare Reform - Putting Patients First.” Congressman Paul Ryan will be the keynote speaker, and the moderator will be the award-winning correspondent and health reporter, Rea Blakey.

The host of this session is the inimitable Val Jones (of Better Health), who also assembled the panel. The panel, by the way, includes some of the brightest lights in the medical blogosphere, including Kevin Pho (Kevin, MD), Rob Lamberts, MD (Musings of a Distractable Mind), Alan Dappen, MD (Better Health), Valerie Tinley, NP (Better Health), Kim McAllister, RN (Emergiblog), Wesby Fisher, MD (Dr. Wes), and Jim Herndon, MD (past president of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons). Anyone who thinks DrRich does not belong on such a panel will not get an argument here.

Each panelist will have 10 minutes to hold forth before participating in a Q & A session. Based on some of the stuff DrRich has seen on the sites of these panelists (and, he must note, some of the stuff that has appeared here), he expects that Congressman Ryan and the national press corps will be hearing a couple of things about healthcare they generally don’t hear inside the beltway. DrRich, for one, looks forward to supplying them with more than a few “unusual” opinions and observations. If he is not dragged away in chains, DrRich will report on the event here after the fact.

But why wait to hear it second-hand? The event is open to the public (though seating is limited), and if you can be there in person, contact John Briley (john.briley@getbetterhealth.com) for a pass. (You might not want to tell him that DrRich sent you. Better to use Dr. Wes’ name instead.)

But join us if you can! Since they drained most of the swamps and deployed lots of pavement, grassy knolls, etc., the July miasma in DC is not nearly as bad as it used to be, and some if not most of its citizens have stopped their annual flight for survival.
